Military microgrids

At the Marine Corps. Air Station near San Diego, CA, Raytheon and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have developed a microgrid where solar panels and landfill gas generate power that is harnessed by a battery storage system.

Keeping critical operations powered up takes on new meaning in a military context, where firing up a diesel generator is not always practical.
