PXiSE DERMS used in 34 Horizon Power microgrids

PXiSE DERMS will be used in 34 Horizon Power microgrids

Following the success of a pilot in the small town of Onslow, Western Australia’s Horizon Power is kicking off 2023 with the rollout of PXiSE’s Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) technology to 34 of the communities it serves.

These isolated communities rely on individual microgrids which are not connected to any larger power grid and are therefore completely dependent on their own power generation sources, which consist of a combination of fossil fuel generators and renewables like solar PV. The addition of PXiSE’s DERMS technology in these communities brings numerous benefits to both the utility and its customers, including:

  • Enabling a greater penetration of renewables
  • Reducing reliance on fossil-fuel generation
  • Improving the efficiency of renewable generation
  • Decreasing the need for curtailments of customer generation sources

…all without compromising power quality or grid stability.

The project kicks off in the town of Broome, Australia and will cover microgrids that range in size from 400 kW to 33 MW.
